Angels Christmas Store Opening – Volunteer Cashiers Needed
Angels Christmas Décor & Gifts Grand Opening in THE STATION (across the street from Angels) on Friday/Saturday beginning November 1. Our sneak peek opening may be as early as this Saturday (10/26). Our 2013 proceeds from the “Christmas” store will be divided between our “Heat Homes with Angels” campaign which is given to Floyd County Department of Social Service for distribution and the other half will go into the Angels Donation Center building fund.
We have beautiful decorations (wreaths, centerpieces, candles, ornaments, tinsel, etc), we have Christmas clothing (infant, children and adult), we have gift ideas – many brand new and all very gently used. We have furniture, linens, books and so much more. Come in often as our inventory far exceeds our space so new items will be stocked daily!
Cashier sign-up is now – give Kathy a call 520-2334; email kathyboydblackwell@gmail or sign up at The Attic (after Saturday the sign-up sheet will be at the Christmas Store). We will operate the same days and hours as Angels in the Attic: T 9-4; F 9-7; S 10-2. Sign up now – together we can do more than any one of us can do alone. As you consider this opportunity, please also consider working in the Boutique or at Angels in the Attic. We particularly need Saturday volunteers!
Shop local – shop knowing your dollars net a “great buy” and supports your friends and neighbors who are having difficulty heating their homes this winter and adds dollars to our Donation Center building funding. We hope to begin building in early 2014!
We want to thank owners of THE STATION for their donation of space to house the Angels Christmas store. We are all blessed to live in a community that has a commitment to help one another when possible.
We appreciate recent donors to our Donation Center Building Fund: Maxine Lewis, Ruth and Bain Thompson and Woodmen of the World, Lodge 14, in Radford. We are $74,000 from our 2013 goal of $150,000. We ask for your continued prayers as we work toward this goal – contributions should be made payable to Angels in the Attic and mailed to P. O. Box 405, Floyd, VA 24091 or dropped off at any of our retail outlets.
We are fast approaching the time to prepare for our third annual ROAD TO BETHLEHEM CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL. We will have our planning meeting on Monday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the Floyd Baptist Fellowship Hall. All churches are invited to join together to provide this ecumenical event held immediately following the Floyd Christmas parade. Angels Ministries will provide gifts for all children in attendance. Last year 14 churches across denominations came together to share the Christmas story, provide photo op with the Nativity scene, crafts, puppet show, and yummy refreshments. Together, as a community of faith, we have this wonderful opportunity to share and witness to our community’s children – all are welcome!
Thanks to each and every volunteer and our managers for working diligently to get it all done! The sheer volume appears overwhelming to many; however, for those of us working we have seen and heard the heartfelt stories: parents being able to clothe their children, families that can afford books and toys because of Angels, the elderly woman who comes in often to buy our cheap fabric so she can make lap robes for the nursing home (pure joy on her face as she rejoices in her ability to gift to others), the gentleman who carefully chooses just the right forks, spoons and knives to create the perfect sound for his home-made wind chimes, the new grandmother carefully selecting new and like-new infant clothing for that soon-to-be grandchild. The faces, the stories, the love each day far outweighs those that complain about prices (really? $1.50 for adult jeans!), or criticize because the volume of donations exceeds our space or those that cannot believe a pair of shoes could possibly cost $2.50! Yes. Our volunteers understand, they know, it’s all about seeing, really seeing and then serving our neighbors. We are thankful.
