What’s Up in the Attic late September #2 2018

HALLOWEEN, THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS, FURNITURE, SIDEWALK SALE, AND VOLUNTEERS ARE IN THE NEWS
At the Attic Store, we have lots of decorative items relating to Fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Our clothing and shoes, from our fall and winter stock, will have new wearables put out every day. If you happen to be doing Fall flower arrangements, check out our large supply of vases.

Mark your calendars: The Christmas Store will be opening October 16th

The Furniture Store is well stocked, and doing a booming business.

We cannot give enough credit to the backbone of all our operations, those wonderful, hard-working volunteers at the Donation Center. They give tirelessly of their time, and keep things moving at all three stores (The Attic Store, the Boutique, and the Furniture Store). Our thanks go to those folks for their labors of sorting, toting, moving, packing and unpacking.

There will be a sidewalk sale at The Boutique on October 13th, called “Dolls, Doilies, and More”. The focus will be on, but not limited to, dolls, lamps, candle holders, and doilies. There may be Christmas decorations and gift ideas. More on this coming up.

Many thanks to the family who thought of Angels and the volunteers with a personal pickup and trailer who delivered it to the store. In particular, there is a stunning, solid wood, high-quality table with 6 chairs and two leaves priced at only $200; a matching buffet for $100, and a matching hutch for $200. These are among the best quality items ever available in the Furniture Store.

There are many other items that nearly fill up the whole Furniture Store, such as multiple sofas, tables, desks, former wood enclosures for TV and audio that can be repurposed for displays of your crafts, office desks, crutches and other mobility aids, stuffed chairs, bed frames, vacuum cleaners (you can plug in and test right there),

Financial Statement and Pie Chart of Supported Programs is released for the year 2017 by Floyd County Angels Ministries Inc., the umbrella organization for Angels in the Attic Store, Angels Boutique, Angels Furniture Store, Angels Donation Center, and Angels Christmas Store.

For the purpose of transparency and full disclosure, here is the official financial statement for Angels, which summarizes the final results for all the efforts of the 80+ volunteers, also the volunteers of the Angels Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors makes the final decisions for which (of the many organizations in the area) can be supported by funds from Angels.  There are some changes from year to year, as circumstances may change.

For the year 2017, an amazing 64.6% of all sales went to supported programs. The balance went to the expenses of the operations, such as insurance, water & sewer, electricity, repairs and maintenance. This incredible percentage is due to the support of a large team of volunteers who toil not only at the counters but behind the scenes sorting donations, trucking it to the stores, stocking the shelves and racks, pricing items, sweeping and dusting, and much more.

You will find copies of both documents posted in the window of Angels in the Attic Store, as has been the practice of the past few years.

ONLY 5 DAYS UNTIL THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND SIDEWALK SALE ON THIS SATURDAY SEPT 1 AT ANGELS BOUTIQUE 10 AM-2 PM. WONDERFUL WALL ART AND DAZZLING DISHES ARE FEATURED
Wall art includes paintings on canvas, metal, or wood, some with beautiful frames. There are two paintings of tigers (the mystery tiger in the shadows photo of a few days ago is now revealed). The dishes category includes vases, sets, plates, and platters. The photos below are but a tiny sampling of the many, many, items to give you an idea of the kinds of treasures.

These items are in process of being priced and dusted, so they are not available for display or sale until the day of the sidewalk sale. They are not accessible to me to provide measurements, because of that processing. So, plan for an outing Saturday and if you are especially interested in particular items, then be there at opening time. Art dealers and antique dealers are welcome, because of the especially low prices.

Angels Boutique is located adjacent to the Angels in the Attic Store in downtown Floyd, VA and is next door to the famous bluegrass venue, the Floyd Country Store (which has great food and ice cream cones, by the way), so don’t miss this great way to leisurely spend one of the three days of the Labor Day Weekend close to your home, whether it be in Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Salem, or Roanoke.

This photo taken a few days ago at Angels Boutique. What is a tiger doing there in the shadows? The photographer made it out OK. Keep a lookout here for an explanation next week.

LINENS GALORE AT THE ANGELS IN THE ATTIC STORE, FINE JEWELRY AT THE ANGELS BOUTIQUE
At this time, The Attic Store in downtown Floyd is stocked with lots of linens: sheets, towels, pillows and pillowcases, placemats, napkins, and tablecloths.
We have a small hamster cage and a ten gallon aquarium for sale. Aquariums may be used for fish, of course, but they also make cool terrariums. If interested, check with a volunteer.
Remember, CD’s are still 2 for 50¢, and video tapes are 5 for $1.00.
At the Angels Furniture store you may be interested in a collection of bike racks for sale. We also have quite a bit of exercise equipment for sale at various prices.
At the Angels Boutique, adjacent to the Attic Store, a recent arrival is an ornate Lois Hill sterling silver bracelet, very expensive at stores but only $75. See the photo below. Matching sterling earrings at $40 will be set aside until the bracelet is sold, in case someone wants the set (ask to view them).
Also at the Boutique is a custom necklace for $30, thought to be sterling, with a burgundy-like stone. The lime jacket it is posed against, is JonesNY only $8.

So save this date on your calendar right now: Saturday, August 4, 10am-2:00pm during and after the Farmer’s Market across the street!

You may have a young adult entering college this August. They may be setting up a dorm room or an apartment.
