ANGELS BOUTIQUE UNVEILS A NEW ANGEL

The Angels Boutique is proud to announce a new angel statue to roll outside during open hours.

The current wooden angel was starting to fall apart. It was originally donated by, we recall, a youth as a school project several years ago. A couple years ago, it was renovated by a local handyman as much as possible after it started to fall apart, and then was repainted and relettered by Cappy Spangler. That extended its life for a couple years.

This new one was redesigned, fabricated, assembled, painted, and lettered by a local team of two, Roger Kienzle and Barbara Pleasant, one a skilled carpenter and the other a skilled artist. Many thanks to these two for their significant donation of time and funds, as well as their creativity to re-imagine an updated look for the angel.

I think a name for the angel would be in order, something like “Angelica” or ???. Reply with your ideas for naming.

The new angel has gained a whole new cheery look and wheels too, which makes it easier for the volunteers to roll out, and roll back in at the end of the day.

The Angel’s Boutique is located adjacent to the Angels in the Attic Store, which is next door to the world famous Floyd Country Store on Hwy 9 a block from the sole traffic signal in the Town of Floyd, VA. Open hours are Fridays 10am-4pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm.

The Angels Boutique is operating with a shortage of volunteers so if you find it closed during open hours, that is the reason. If you view something in the window that you are seriously considering buying, go to the Angels in the Attic Store and they can bring it out.

RARE AND UNUSUAL HADDORFF VERTICHORD GRAND PIANO FOR SALE

Recently donated to Angels in the Attic Furniture Store. It was built around the 1930’s and refurbished in the 1970’s. It is an upright grand piano. An appraisal pegged the value in the $2,000 to $3,000 range but Angels has decided to offer it at $1,200. It is approximately 5 feet long and 4 ft tall. It could be called an upright grand piano.

“The Vertichord was the original and the prototype of all of the pianos which have since come to be known as Spinets and Consoles and with now account for the great majority of the total piano production. The basic design and construction of the Vertichord are fully covered by patents. The Vertichord presents a further sensational improvement in small piano tonal development in the form of a secondary sound board connected with the main board by means of a “tone post” called the acoustic coupler. This invention increases the sound board area by more than half, with a corresponding improvement in the power and quality of tone.”

ANGELS IN THE ATTIC ANNOUNCES PARTIAL REOPENING IN LATE JUNE.
ANGELS ISSUES PLEA FOR VOLUNTEERS SO WE CAN BE OPEN MORE DAYS AND HOURS.

The Angels in the Attic Store has developed safe plans to reopen only on these Saturdays: June 20th and June 27th, with normal hours of 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

A decision on reopening the Angels Donation Center and the Angels Furniture Store will be made on or about June 10.

We urge more citizens who are not in a protected age class to volunteer, so that it would make possible opening on additional days. Since a large percentage of our current volunteers are seniors, some of whom have pre-existing conditions, you can understand the situation. If you are available to volunteer, please email us at angelsfloydinfo@gmail.com or stop by on the first day the store opens.

Volunteers do a wide variety of tasks, some of which would fit your talents and availability. A few are at the cash register. Others stock the shelves with toys, books, tools, and kitchenware, while others fill the racks with clothing. Yet others apply price tags. Those at the Angels Donation Center sort donations into categories for resupplying the store. Those at the Angels Furniture Store receive new donations, assist customers, and handle the register. If you only have 2 hours available 3 days a week, or 3 hours one day a week, or some other odd schedule, we surely can use your help. You can choose the kind of tasks you feel fit your talents.

Keep in touch frequently for more updates with the Angels in the Attic Facebook page, and with the Angels website at www.angelsintheattic.org

WHEN ANGELS IN THE ATTIC MIGHT RE-OPEN
It all depends on the Governor, as well as the County and local governments, as to when it is allowed.

Our guess is that there will be clarification by government entities during the last week or two of May, and just possibly there might be an ok to reopen the first of June.

Also, you must remember that most of the volunteers are seniors, so their agreement is necessary to build enough staffing to re-open the stores. We understand that any with underlying health issues may choose to wait awhile longer before returning.

If there are non-seniors (as a group, less health risk) who would like to volunteer, please send an email to us at angelsfloydinfo@gmail.com, as we think additional help will be needed. Of course, seniors are also welcome to join.

We will update you as soon as this situation clears up.
